Wicked Ugly Bad A Kinda Fairy Tale Book 1 edition by Cassandra Gannon Paranormal Romance eBooks

Don't ask me why I bought this book. Something in the blurb appealed to my quirky nature. However, I am THRILLED I got this book. The author has an imagination that does not quit. Any author that can do what this one did is worth reading. As for other reviewers whining about typos (and deducting stars for that alone) - you folks do NOT understand the job of editors. Typos and missed words or punctuation are not the job of the author, those are the job of the line editor in a publishing house. Two totally different skill sets are in play.

The author's job is simple - create a compelling read with interesting characters and dialog and a great plot. Build a world a reader will SEE and FEEL as they read. Those are the responsibilities of the writer. ANYONE can correct typos and "English class" type mistakes. However it takes a skilled writer to grab you with their story, their characters and their world and pull you into it as a reader. NOT every writer can do what this one did. I recognize that fact and have nothing but respect for this author's work.

I highly recommend this book, and the second in the series. The author created a story using some of the classic fairytale characters in totally unique and unexpected ways. If you never thought of Cinderella as a narcissistic freaky psycho who wronged her "ugly" stepsisters, you will after reading this book. The twists and turns and characters this author created captivated me. It kept me reading and reading and reading until I finished the book. I immediately checked for more and found the second book and just finished that one as well. I wish there were more.

The main character - Scarlett (Letty), is strong and funny - imprisoned unjustly for being "ugly" and "bad" - and desperate to escape. Who knew she would find her "True Love" in the Big Bad Wolf - Marrok, also imprisoned for being "bad"? However, he does live up to being Bad in all the best ways -- a sexy gorgeous Alpha.

Doesn't everyone have both good and bad in them? Shouldn't it be wrong to be imprisoned just because they were classified as "bad", whether they committed a crime or not? And why won't anyone listen when Letty said she has proof her step-sister Cindy is not really the Prince's True Love and that Cindy's big foot did NOT fit in the glass slipper? And why won't any of the "Good" people listen when she insists it is just a matter of time before Cinderella has her killed?

Now, it may all sound twisted and impossible, but this author makes it work. Letty is actually mostly "Good", and in great danger if the other inmates realize it. Letty is also telling the truth about everything. Cinderella is one sick puppy. Eventually, the reader will cheer to see beautiful, perfect Cinderella punched in the face.

This author creates a great story and a great love story. The sex is graphic. This is definitely a book for an adult. But the character development is really good. The writing is skilled, and this book has become a new favorite of mine. I only hope the author writes more of these irreverant "kinda" fairytales.

So - if you want a fun, adult read - get this book.

Wicked Ugly Bad A Kinda Fairy Tale Book 1 edition by Cassandra Gannon Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

This was my first read from either of the Gannon sisters; they’re now two of my favorite authors and I have absolutely devoured all of their works. This story is incredibly fun and witty, twisting fairy tales to make the villains, well, the good guys (both Elizabeth and Cassandra write about wonderfully flawed and villainous antiheroes for many of their books). I love this storyline and this book.
Take all of your beloved fairy tales and stand them on their heads. Imagine a world where the Big Bad Wolf is the hero; where the ugly step-sister wins the prince; where Snow White runs an insane asylum; and all of your preconceived notions of good and bad get tossed out of the window. That's the world of Letty and Marrok, who have an unconventional romance that begins in prison. They have to learn to work together and trust each other to earn their happily ever after. It's non-stop action with plenty of humor thrown in.
I'm always a bit dubious when people say that they laughed out loud at a book, but this book was surprisingly charming and quite sweet. I just loved the idea of the ugly step sisters being the wronged ones and Cinderella being the pyschopath, beating her rats and with a cleaning fetish. I have to confess that I did chuckle more than once reading this book. I loved Marrock and Scarlett and the rest of the Tuesday share circle. This is a great world and I look forward to exploring it more.
It's like Justice League for Fairy Tale villains. We follow the story of ugly step sister Scarlett Riding, who finds herself in the Wicked Ugly Bad Mental Institute, a prison really, filled with fairy tale victims, I mean villians, who are forced to make macaroni necklaces and have therapy sessions amongst other baddies of the Four Kingdoms. In this realm, people are born Bad or Good and the baddies have are second class citizens to the Good even if the Good aren't really good.

I really enjoyed this series. It's unique, it's refreshing. There's great chemistry between Letty and Marrok and a surprising twist in the end. Gannon is a talented storyteller that makes you want to grab the next book in the series.
I was a little reluctant to read this book because I had already read Avenant and Belle's story, and I didn't really want to see Avenant as a side character. I also couldn't really wrap my head around having one of Cinderella's ugly stepsisters as the heroine. But I am glad that I did.

As with all of Cassandra Gannon's books, the imagination of the story is limitless, but the writing itself does not do the story credit. Typos and grammatical mistakes abound. I look past them at the story itself, but I can understand many readers not being able to. Also, it should be noted that some of the sex scenes in "W.U.B" are darker than they usually are. If highly explicit content isn't your cup of tea, whenever you see a chapter starting with Cinderella...skip it.

Since I love Avenant, Beast that he is, I would have liked to see him take on a stronger role in this book. It also probably would've been nice to see more development between all of the members of Tuesday Share Circle, though it's understandable that the focus is on Letty and Marrok. The two of them make an adorable couple, and are strong leads for the novel. I enjoyed going through the adventure with them, more than I had expected. I like that the author twisted fairy tail stereotypes--Prince Charming was totally useless, Cinderella was twisted, the Big Bad Wolf was dreamy yet insecure, and entirely devoted to his True Love. And Cinderella's ugly stepsister? Intelligent, driven, cunning, and with equal measures of good and bad.

The novel sets up the world well, and is a driving force for the second novel. And I like the message the Cassandra Gannon sends--there's Good in the Bad, and Bad in the Good.
