Discover the delicious lure of a taboo siren call with four stories bundled into a wickedly hot anthology that's determined to keep it all in the family!

When Patrick's father went off to war in 1944, he told his eighteen-year-old son, You're the "Man of the House" now. Patrick's mother has struggled to keep them afloat, and he does what he can to help. He knows she's tired, sad and very lonely, but when circumstance brings a young woman into their lives for a brief time, it alters everything between he and his mother forever. Will Patrick become the real "man of the house" before his father returns from the war?

In "The Garden of Eden," Libby has lived her whole life with her father, Ed, in a nudist colony. It's a very open, natural life, and they've never had an issue--until Libby's mother, Kim, re-enters their lives. Kim is appalled by their living and sleeping arrangements and wants to take Libby away from the nudist life. Libby, still devastated by her mother's abandonment, wants to have nothing to do with the shopping trips and material things her mother is offering, but the longer Kim stays, the more everything --everything--becomes a greater temptation.

In "Lassoing the Moon," Leila knows she's always been closer to her son, Rich, than most mothers, since Rich's father left when he was just a baby. He's been the man in her life forever--but now he's really a man, and his coming-of-age is a test for both of them.

In "Lost Souls," eighteen-year-old Lily, raised by her fundamentalist preacher stepfather, Adam, isn't allowed to date or do anything against church "law." Asked to the Halloween dance by a boy she really likes, Lily defies Adam. But when they are caught in a compromising position by her stepfather, what will her punishment and repentance be?

Normally when a book has a prologue written by the author to preface the work, I tend to skim through it, but I found myself incredibly engrossed in what Selena Kitt had to say in the preface to this boxed set as it was all about why the set was labeled "Revised."

Selena Kitt talks a lot about how Amazon censors independent authors against publishing biological incest, deleting their works with no warnings or explanations beyond that it's "against policy" or how they "reserve the right to refuse to sell any product." She is very up-front that she agrees that Amazon has the right to refuse to sell anything. It's their company. They can stock whatever they want on their shelves. The point she tries to make the reader think about is that they aren't outright saying "We won't publish this because it has biological incest" while that's clearly the factor of the works which had resulted in them being removed from sale before.

She had to self-censor her work to protect her product when Amazon has plenty of other works done by large-scale publication houses which feature biological incest. I mean, I know I'm not the only person in the world to have ever read George RR Martin, Anne Rice, VC Andrews, or, for that matter, Tolkein (Yes. There is incest in Tolkein and I'm not just talking about the fact that Arwen is Aragorn's first-cousin ridiculous times removed.), yet their works are never removed. So why target indie writers for this particular taboo topic?

Taboos are exciting. They're thrilling purely because they are "forbidden" fantasies, but Selena Kitt never strays from the concept that her work is pure fantasy.

The works in these feature characters who are all of legal age, all consenting adults, and no one is biologically related though they are step-parent/step-child fantasy stories.

I do find it offensive to say that her work is "porn" when she is an erotica writer, by the way, as these stories? They're short, but the characters are all fully-developed, fully-realized individuals whose scenarios are all three-dimensional. These aren't stories where the pizza delivery man stays for a quickie. They're stories where the characters are conflicted over their supposedly forbidden desires and succumb only because of some push in that direction. It never fails to fascinate me what impetus she uses to tip the scales for any given pairing; these were all amazing. My favorite work was the step-mother/step-son piece that was a period piece set during WWII. It's a time period I greatly enjoy and I loved how very old-fashioned the tale felt, every moment was as if the recounting were more a memoir than anything else. It was a beautiful piece. I enjoyed the Puritanical step-father/step-daughter story since it had a hint of dark religious territory which I always find fascinating. Two taboos in one writing? Yes, please, and thank you. The step-father/step-daughter piece from which this all seems to take its name featured a nudist colony with these beautiful ideals of living a shame-free life. I really enjoyed that one since it's true that the worst feelings people tend to have come from giving credence to the judgments of others. I got a good, warm feeling of pure joy reading the step-mother/step-son story where they're celebrating the holidays together while watching It's a Wonderful Life. That one is a classic in my life, too. It brings a lot of fond memories for me of that time of year which is why I think the story read more sensual than smutty.

It baffles me to think that Selena Kitt is a porn writer when there are things out there that are literally lacking in any humanity whatsoever and her work reads as if she's tried to infuse it with as much individuality in the short spans she has to make it all happen.

This boxed set was a steal on sale for me. I do wish it hadn't been censored though I understand now why it was and even censored it is still well-deserving of a five-star rating.

Thanks for sharing your work, lady. I never get tired of reading it!

Back to the Garden Original Selena Kitt 9781609827038 Books Reviews

Good adult reading, although the subjects are taboo.
Selena Kitt is a genius at writing the sensual and erotic. This book is sure to delight the reader. Kitt takes us to the taboo edge of erotic literature as she writes about various sexual encounters. One particularly playful tale focusses on a minister and his wayward daughter. He is easily intrigued with her wrongful romp with her wanna-be boyfriend. The randy minister takes it upon himself to introduce his delirious daughter to the delights of the flesh. Readers beware...you will be intrigued and hungry for more!
I am so happy with this book. Although the author had to defend the book by altering it, the original sentiment which is to enjoy fantasy knowing it is JUST THAT and NOTHING MORE certainly came through.
This is another winner by Selena Kitt. She excels at short stories just as she does with longer works. Every tale was well-written, evoking strong emotional and physical responses. Ms. Kitt has a creative gift, and I'm glad she's not afraid to give it free reign.
Selena Kitt's work is professional, clean, and very effective at what it does. In this case, it's a collection of four short stories centered around incestuous encounters. They're all well-written; the relationship is clearly established and the build-up believable, if pushing the bounds quite a bit. To describe them, individually
The title story, "Garden of Eden" begins with a father raising his daughter, alone, in a nudist colony in which he is the preacher who organized the group. When her mother shows up unexpectedly, emotions are kicked into high gear. The obvious eroticism of nudity is turned on its head when the colony's one night of clothed dancing is what moves things forward. A good story, albeit clichéd.
"Lassoing the Moon" is the story of a single mother who falls for her son. It's straight-forward enough, though there's still enough foreplay to keep a good pace.
"Lost Souls" is a story of a Preacher and his daughter. Though she tries to be dutiful and moral, her indiscretion brings his wrath when she indulges herself one Halloween night. His discipline is firm but leads to more sin. There's some light BDSM in this one, but nothing too harsh or lengthy.
"Man of the House" is more of a period piece than the other three, set in 1944. A mother does her best to raise her son in the United States after her husband left to fight in the War. After he helps (as is helped by) a war widow, the mother sees her son in a different light. As a period piece, this story has more details to make it seem genuine, and the dialogue works smoothly with the action.
Overall this is a good, spicy collection of brief erotic interludes.
It is a good book
Selena takes you places you shouldn't go but may have longed to visit. "Very stimulating" is a gross understatement. Oh my.
