Hidden passageways…a suit of armor that moves…a small town with big secrets. Is there a better way to spend the summer?

After purchasing a monkey skull at an estate sale following the death of the last of the town’s founding family, Remy is curious how the animal died. She enlists the aid of the school’s outcast—a teen with a strange fascination with dead animals. They team up with a runaway and together volunteer to straighten the shelves in the mansion’s library. But they have more than shelving books on their minds, because when Remy completed her reconstruction, she discovered that the skull wasn’t from an animal.
There are others who know the skull is human. And there is one person who will stop at nothing to keep its identity a secret.
In the tradition of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, three thirteen-year-olds dabble in CSI to reveal a town’s long-kept secret. Along the way, three unlikely friends discover their true talents.

This mystery is appropriate for ages 11 to 111.

(The author also writes the Chase Dagger series as Lee Driver as well as the Sam Casey series under her own name - S.D. Tooley)

S.D. Tooley did another outstanding job of keeping my interest until the end. The books are written at a smooth, fast pace that I enjoy. I can sit and relax and become involved with this author's writing. I haven't read any of Tooley's books I wouldn't pass on to others.

The Skull eBook SD Tooley Reviews

Thirteen year old Remy Bauer is a highly intelligent teen who lives with her single mom and her paternal grandmother while her absentee dad travels the world gambling just like his late father did. Remy enjoys her lifestyle as the other females in the household encourage her to be all she can be. She especially enjoys forensics.

At the Sycamore Mansion estate sale, Remy buys a monkey's skull with plans to construct the animal. She asks Rob "Roadkill" Haislett who photographs dead animals and orphaned Andy the runaway to help her learn how the animal died. As they become friends, they obtain summer work at Sycamore Mansion. This enables them to seek clues to the monkey's death. However, instead of learning that, Rob proves the skull belonged to a newborn human. The three young teens tries to learn what happened and when, but someone has other ideas as to what to do with three nosy thirteen years old youngsters

This excellent young adult forensics mystery is fast-paced yet provides a discerning look at social issues facing tweeners such as peer pressure, youth gangs, and abandonment. The three amigos are unique eccentric protagonists who make this a fun amateur sleuth for readers of all ages.

The Skull by S.D. Tooley is grammatically correct and well written.

The story begins on the manicured lawn of the Sycamore mansion as bargain hunters pawed through the auction offerings of the late Henry Sycamore, last living heir to the Sycamore fortune.

Remy and her grandmother were looking over a Sonoma monkey skull they hoped to purchase so Remy could use it for forensic reconstruction, a hobby of Remy's.

As it was, the skull went to Edgar, a suitor of Remy's grandmother. He then presented Remy with the skull, having bought it for her.

Events unfold to find Remy and two friends helping sort the books in the library of the Sycamore mansion, readying it for the Historical Society.

Events become dangerous when Remy discovers the skull she thought belonged to a monkey was human.

This story pulls the reader in and keeps you wanting to know what happens next. I recommend it for everyone although it is a young adult novel. I give this book 3.5 stars
Good reading.
Interesting plot , good story line. Shows what teenagest can do when they put their minds to it. Shows companionship, friendship, and caring for one another. Exciting without all the blood and gore some of the books I've read.
I really liked it this book. It is more for a younger age than my self but still very good and fast read. Kept you interest.
This was a great book and the three kids of different backgrounds who bonded to help solve a mystery was very capturing. Hope anyone who loves a mystery will read it.
Good fun book to read, I enjoyed the fun ride. The characters were like reading Nanct Drew or other great classics
